Spring Is Here!

Spring is our favorite season, and pets are sure to love it most too. Afterall, more hours of sunlight, means more hours to play!

As the days start getting longer and warmer, here are some things to keep in mind.

Let ‘em out!

Now that it will be lighter later into the evening, you have the perfect opportunity to go out and get some exercise. Take your pup with you on a walk around the block, stop to smell the flowers and enjoy the fact that it’s spring!

Dogs aren’t the only ones who can benefit from being outside. Use a kitty leash, and take your cat on a stroll through your yard. If you have small animals, like rabbits and guinea pigs, set up a safe space in the backyard where they can nibble on grass and move around.

Pets can get them too! If you notice your pet chewing at his or her feet, constantly licking their side, or rubbing their face they may be suffering from allergies. You can learn more about pet allergies here.

Spring is also a good time to treat your pet for ticks and fleas. Ticks can start showing up as early as April!

Wild Animals

Everyone seems to emerge from their winter hermit-like state come late-March… including wild animals. Depending on where you live, be on the look out for foxes, mountain lions, coyotes, and other animals, while out on walks or lurking around your neighborhood. Be sure your pet’s outdoor space is secure, and don’t let pets roam outside in the evening!

Easter Animals

Easter celebrations are great family fun. But it is unnecessary to purchase animals, like baby chicks and bunnies, just for the occasion. These are pets, just like a cat or dog, and should be given the same level of consideration before you bring them home.

Crowded Parks

With the nicer weather more people are inevitably going to be spending time at the local dog park. Be prepared! You should always bring a leash with you, and be sure your pup is properly trained.

Bird feeders!

Setting up a bird feeder on your porch is a great way to see and interact with wildlife! Put it out now, and you can enjoy watching birds flock to get some seeds now throughout the summer.

What are some ways you enjoy time with your pet during the spring?

We love to play outside. I’ve been trying to teach my new dog Pierson to fetch. It was going okay until last week when it started raining. It hasn’t stopped yet so my dogs are stuck mostly indoors. Perhaps after it dries up a bit, I will see if I can teach him to catch a frisbee.

We’ve been struggling with allergy of my doggy previous months. I’m so grateful that it’s over and we found a way to cope with it. Since I also have pet allergy, I know how inconvenient it can be. After these experience I’m happy that I learned more about living with pet allergies and applied these at my place. Now, both of us can enjoy spring without any unpleasant feeling. If you have any suspicion that either you, or your pet has allergic reaction, don’t hesitate and consult this with a specialist asap, it can really pay off.
